Drow Miniatures – Good For Any Campaign

Excellent Addition To Your Collection

I would have to say having a set of drow added to your set of dnd monster miniatures would be the best choice ever. You already know that there are tons of drow in the underdark and they come in a different variety. This ranges from the obvious mages to the downright warrior class. We also know that the drow are a pain in the butt to deal with. They are not only annoying but they just will not go away.

A Drow Encounter

So you are in the middle of your campaign already and you reach a Drow city full of them. You can either be foolish and attack head on or sneak around within it. Probably would be best to just move around the place quietly just to be safe. As of why you need to get through it, that is beyond me. I just showed up in the middle of the campaign, so I have not got a clue what your objectives are.

Unfortunate for you, you just got spotted by four Drow. Now, what do you do? Well, it all depends on the class you picked and the equipment you are using. We already know you have your set of dice, so you are obviously going to roll for iniative to see who goes first.

The next step would be to determine where everybody is located at. We could do it all in our heads, but it would be much easier to use a visual aid. Having tiles and miniatures would help a bundle. We place our tiles and set out our miniatures.

It is probably best to use miniatures that are the right size and look close enough to the character that is being used. It also makes the game more exciting if you see an actual drow instead of a generic game piece from Monopoly or Clue. I am sorry but that would be just too lame in my book. I have done it and it just looks goofy in dungeons and dragons.

So instead, you will want to use actual drow figures that you purchased or crafted yourself. Yes, some people do have a hobby of making their own miniatures. I use to put some together myself and paint them when I was a teenager. Now, I do not really have enough time for that in my adult life, so I just go out and buy miniatures instead.

Miniature Placement

When placing them on the tile, you will want to do it based on how the encounter occurred and also make sure you have buildings placed as well. In other words, you will need to measure each square to determine the distance from the enemy to the player character.

For example: one square equals 10 feet and the enemy is 60 feet away, so the character would be six squares away. When fighting each square does count and you could use the weapon on the miniature itself to determine the distance from the enemy to see if it can be hit up close or far away. Some miniatures have different weapon types ranging from swords to a halberd. Also the size of the miniature matters as well because it could take up more than one square which prevents the player character from occupying that square for strategic purposes.

Lure Your Foes As A Strategy

Luckily, the drow does not take up more than one square unless you are talking about a large dryder. In which case it would be difficult to pass by it in a narrow passageway. It would probably be best to lure it away from that spot so as to have more to move around it (or for more players, to surround it).

Actually, my most common tactic in any game is luring creatures from a spot, so that it goes to my advantage. What if I had a ranger or archer hiding in a spot somewhere up high. I could have my warrior lure the enemy on the lower portion of the area, so he can take a beating from arrows or bolts.
