Dnd Experience Mod For Fabletop – Time to Level Up

Power Usage

loss in battle On a previous post, I went over creating characters similar to 4th edition dnd for Fabletop, Yes, I did throw in a hint of 2nd edition into the mod as well. I do not know if anybody noticed or not. Powers is not something that is normally used in 4th edition rules, but ingredients and time frames are used pretty frequently in 2nd edition so I managed to use that concept to come up with how much power was being used for certain traits.

Rewarding Experience And Character Leveling

Anyway, you came here to get something to add levels to your game sessions as well as to slow down the experience rate. The game is kind of fun with just using the 20 xp rule and yes it does speed things up like crazy, but it can also lead to it getting kind of repetitive and old after awhile.

There is nothing wrong with rewarding 2 experience every two hours, but it would be a lot more fun to reward the xp how it use to be done in 2nd edition (disarming traps, slaying monsters, using certain skills successful, etc…). Now do you have to do it that way? Absolutely not. You can take what I put in here and continue just rewarding every 1 or 2 hours an x amount of experience and give x experience for a player role playing while like it shows to do in Fabletop. X would equal whatever amount of experience rate you wish to give instead of the usual 1 or 2 experience.

So below, I added an experience chart that you can use for leveling your characters up. When someone does gain enough experience, you will write the level number under the description section. Yes, it will have to be manually entered into the character sheet. It is the player’s responsibility to keep track of leveling and upgrading trait points. The game master’s only job is giving and taking away experience points and determining how much is given or taken.

The below table goes up through level 53 and as you can see it gets harder to gain xp as you go up. It is on a lower scale than actual dungeons and dragons due to it following the simplicity curve of Fabletop. I would recommend as a generic rule to give out 1 xp for every enemy defeated on top of the 1 xp for successful role playing. This will keep it from being a pain up until players hit around level 5 or 6.

As the characters level up past level 5, I would highly suggest you use my monster chart I created on another post. Also the game will seem pretty easy for leveling up until the players reach around level 51. Then, it starts to get really challenging – especially at level 52. Good luck leveling up your character at that point. It will require either a ton of quests or fighting hordes of monsters. The reward will be well worth the wait.

As you can see, all levels have a state upgrade such as increased health or power. Some of the increases are based on how much Might or Wisdom a character has. Class and racial traits upgrades are based on traits that were selected on character creation and the racial traits are either from actual racial powers or can be used for racial skills if a power is not currently available.

Skill increases are self explanatory. A character increases his skill by one in any chosen skill that he currently possesses. This can include racial bonus skills as well such as Perception for example.
